Lunch-Hour Photo Project: The Rules

Oh yes, there are indeed rules.

It’s not that I wanted rules, I just had rules thrust upon me.

Rule #1 - These Are Lunch-Hour Photos, Emphasis on the Lunch-HOUR: I could happily spend all day taking, editing and posting photos, but I think my employers would rather I didn’t. This means I’ve got 60 minutes maximum (whether I take it at lunch time, or whenever in the afternoon I can tear myself away from my desk) to take, select, edit and post* a photo. What can I say? Once upon a time, I used to be a journalist; I love a good deadline.

*Note: Posting initially happens on Twitter, with full blog posts written later. Taking and editing photos on one’s cameraphone in under an hour is difficult enough. If you want blog posts that are actually readable, you’ll have to give me some time.

Rule #2 - Work With What You’ve Got: At home, I’ve got a lovely laptop with all the photo-editing software you can shake a stick at. Alas, I do not work from home, and my workplace doesn’t much like us hooking up unapproved hardware to our computers. This unfortunately means that my lovely DSLR can’t be used for lunch-hour photo excursions (sadface). It also means no fancy Photoshop tricks. All the photos you see here here will be taken and edited entirely on my iPhone on my lunch hour. I do enjoy making things more complicated than they need to be!

Now, here’s are the first two photos of the month: St. James Cathedral (taken May 3, 2010)
